Travel Tips

  • Why not take the train out to Lisbon and fly home? – flights are plentiful from Lisbon to the UK.
  • It is a scenic and comfortable train journey but lengthy. However, there are options to break it up with just one stop in Barcelona beginning with Eurostar to Paris. From Paris to Barcelona TGV Duplex choose a seat in the upper deck for the best views.
  • If time is not an issue enjoy time stopping along the journey for example in Paris, San Sebastian and Vigo.
  • Best time of the year to visit is late Spring (May/June) or early Autumn (September) when there are fewer tourists in the city but the weather is still glorious.
  • Spend a day taking the train to Entroncamento to visit the National Railway Museum and then onwards by train or bus to medieval Almourol Castle situated on an island on the River Tagus.
  • For a day outside of the city, take the train to the picturesque town of Sintra with its brightly coloured palaces and castles. Explore using a bus day ticket for unlimited travel at your own pace.
  • Spend half a day at the Carris Museum, full of public transportation history and memorabilia of Lisbon.
  • Buy a Lisbon travel card and enjoy unlimited use of the trams, buses, elevadores (funiculars), the metro and several museums.
  • Comfortable footwear is a must however, taxis are an inexpensive option if needed.
