Mallorca Narrow Gauge
Discover this Mediterranean Isle by Rail
Tour Overview
Mallorca may be best known for its golden beaches, but beyond the coastline lies a stunning and lesser-explored interior, filled with mountain landscapes, charming villages, and historic railways.
- Experience a different side of this beautiful island and uncover the true heart of this Mediterranean gem—all from the comfort of its historic narrow-gauge rail lines. Avoid the summer crowds by travelling earlier or later in the year when the weather is still warm, and the pace is more relaxed.
- Based in Palma, Mallorca’s vibrant capital, you’ll have time to explore its rich history, from the impressive La Seu Cathedral to the winding streets of the old town, A day’s excursion is a journey on the century-old Sóller Railway, a 20-mile scenic ride into the breathtaking Sierra de Tramuntana Mountains. Step back in time as you travel through orange and olive groves before reaching Sóller, where a charming tram takes you down to its picturesque port—an experience that perfectly blends history, nature, and coastal beauty.
- Continue your rail adventure with visits to Manacor, Inca, and Pollença, offering a deeper look at Mallorca’s diverse landscapes and cultural heritage. In Manacor, discover traditional crafts, including the island’s famous pearl industry, while Inca is home to bustling markets and fine leather goods. The tour also takes you to Pollença, a town rich in character, where you can stroll its charming streets, enjoy a relaxed café culture, and even climb the famous Calvari Steps for spectacular views.
- This relaxing, immersive rail holiday offers a unique way to explore, revealing a world of historic railways, scenic mountains, and authentic local experiences. You can decide how long you wish to stay on this stunning Iberian Island and we will help you curate an itinerary to include flights, rail travel, accommodation in one place or more and car hire if required.
Travel Tips
- From golden beaches in the south to rugged mountains in the north, you’ll find that this island is full of surprises. Mallorca’s rail network offers a unique, scenic and convenient way to explore.
- Palma de Mallorca offers a strategic location, access to a variety of transportation options, and a blend of urban charm with proximity to natural beauty. We’d suggest allowing a minimum of 5 nights here.
- Opt for a centrally located hotel in Palma to maximise sightseeing potential.
- Mallorca is home to Tren de Sóller. This historic train is a must-do for anyone interested in a nostalgic experience and beautiful views.
- While the rail network offers a great way to explore the countryside and key towns, it is a little limited. You may wish to hire a car for some of your holiday; this would allow you to visit Pollença and its port as well as remote beaches and hidden mountain villages such as Fornalutx, Biniaraix and Valldemossa.
- Be sure to include a visit to Manacor, accessible via Line 3 of the rail network. It is renowned for its authentic Mallorcan market, held Mondays to Saturdays in the morning.
- Inca also hosts one of Mallorca’s biggest weekly markets. Time your visit on a Thursday to sample the freshest produce, clothing, antiques and crafts on offer.
