A highlight of any trip out west, the Canadian Rockies cover a huge area, making rail travel an ideal way to explore them.
Rocky Mountaineer are a company who offer a range of luxury experiences, pairing comfortable daytime rail travel with overnight stays in hotels. The rail routes are specially designed to provide unequalled views of mountains, rivers, forests, and wildlife.
There are 3 main routes: First Passage to the West (Vancouver to Banff or vice versa), Journey Through the Clouds (Vancouver to Jasper or vice versa) and Rainforest to Gold Rush (Vancouver to Whistler or vice versa).
The Rocky Mountaineer’s GoldLeaf Service offers premium seating in double-decker coaches, with panoramic glass windows that allow for unobstructed views of the scenery. GoldLeaf also includes gourmet meals prepared with fresh, local ingredients, served in an elegant dining area.
SilverLeaf Service is a more affordable option which offers spacious single-level carriages with large windows and comfortable seats. Guests can still enjoy delicious meals and premium service throughout the journey.
Both service classes onboard the Rocky Mountaineer’s trains include access to an outdoor viewing platform, where passengers can step outside to experience the fresh mountain air and snap photos of the passing scenery.
This area offers exceptional opportunities for wildlife viewing. Depending on the time of year, you may spot elk, black bears, bighorn sheep, and deer. The Rocky Mountains are also home to a variety of bird species, including bald eagles and ospreys.
